Pizza Hut came into existence in 1958 when two brothers, Dan and Frank Carney, opened a pizza parlour in their hometown in Kansas. To start their business, they borrowed $600 from their mother and created the company with their partner John Bender.

The brothers purchased second-hand equipment to make pizzas. Then, they used the marketing tactic – of free goods. They gave free pizzas on the opening night to attract more customers.

As their business took off, they opened another store. And in the next year, they were proudly running six pizza stores, which started the concept of franchising with Pizza Hut.

The hard-hitting marketing of Pizza Hut helped it become a leading pizza store in the 1960s. Then a couple of years later, their famous building style came into existence, which allowed them to become even more popular.

Talking about the famous name, the founders chose the name “Pizza Hut” because their initial sign could only fit eight letters. The merger between Pizza Hut and PepsiCo in 1977 helped the pizza store to increase its sales.

However, in 1994, the sales of Pizza Hut came to a halt due to the ongoing market changes. Factors like competitors’ price decreases halt in pizza market growth, and an increase in stores declined Pizza Hut’s profit.

Pizza Hut focused on the people’s demand and offered takeout and delivery services to cope with this challenge. Due to this, many express locations began to pop up.
